In 1990 Frankie became the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in one season. His first winner came at the age of 16 in Turin in November 1986, while his first in Britain was the following June.

Further success followed, with numerous winners in Group 1 races. On September 28, 1996 he achieved the feat of winning all seven races on a single day at Ascot Racecourse.

Dettori is the retained jockey for the Godolphin racing stables. He is affectionately known as "Frankie" and is world renowned for his "flying dismounts". The Epsom Derby is the only British classic race Dettori has not won.

a 1990 Grand National racecard signed by all jockeys apart from the two non runners, a 1989 Grand National racecard signed by the winning jockey Jimmy Frost, 1991 Cheltenham Gold Cup both fully-signed by the competing jockeys and a a racecard from the 'void’1993 Grand National. (There were two non-runners in the 1990 Grand National, therefore no signature appears against horse No.38. Jamie Osborne's intended mount Sacred Path was the other non-runner, and as a consequence he switched to Against The Grain at the expense of Mark Dwyer. However, Osborne's autographed where his name originally appeared on the racecard.)
