Sports Memorabilia

Motorsports

Collecting Motor Racing Memorabilia can be an intriguing hobby or small business for the Motorsports enthusiast; you are able to combine meeting your heroes with building a motor racing memorabilia collection. Formula 1 is to me the best choice and it is the second most watched sport worldwide followed by soccer. The Automobile club of France organised the first official Grand Prix at Le Mans in 1906 The advent of the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1933 saw Motor Racing established as a big business sport, with motor manufacturers and sponsors reflecting in the excitement of race. A good tip when collecting any Sports Memorabilia is to specialise in a nominated category, categories are defined as pre-war and post war, Motorsport Memorabilia from the modern era although desirable will not usually attract the attention shown to earlier examples. There are many individual areas where one can specialise; examples would include Race Attire, Helmets, Caps, Rare Autographs, Hand Signed Photos, Real Photo Postcards, Event Programmes and Framed Presentations. It is prudent consider the condition of Sports Memorabilia, although one must be realistic when it comes to age and usage. To nominate but a few popular Motor Racing Drivers no portfolio would be complete without including the following drivers, James Hunt, Nikki Lauda, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Emmerson Fitipaldi, Enzo Ferrari, William Grover Williams Hermann Lang, Ayrton Senna, Richard Seaman, Michael Schumacher, Henry Seagrove, Stirling Moss,  Donald Malcolm Campbell (yes he was a Grand Prix driver) , it is down to personal choice and opportunity. When bidding online at popular internet sites for hand signed Motor Racing Memorabilia the costs are higher and you have not real idea of the authentication of the item, if you have to bid at online auctions it is important to research the vendor and always ask for formal authentication, UACC or AFTAL. I cannot emphasis enough the care which must be taken when bidding on popular internet sites. An article which you can find on my website called Rare autographs real of fake is informative and I strongly advise you to read this. Good luck with your collecting.

Sir Malcolm Campbell (1885 - 1948) – Bluebird.

A remarkable man who set the world speed record on land and on water at various times during the 1920s and 1930s in the Bluebird. His son, Donald Campbell, was killed in 1967, attempting to repeat his achievements.

In 1933 at Daytona Beach, Florida, he set a speed of 272.46mph to break his own Land Speed World Record. His 'Bluebird' car now weighed four tons and was powered by a Rolls-Royce V-12, 36 ½ - litre, 2500 h.p. aero engine similar to the one used by Supermarine to win the 1931 Schneider Trophy in the forerunner of their famous WW2 fighter plane, the Spitfire. This was the fourth of five Land Speed Records Campbell would set on Daytona Beach, all in front of vast crowds.

This stunning and large presentation celebrates the achievement with original 20” press photos of the car on the beach surrounded by team members and of Campbell breaking the world record.
