Congratulations to Cork athlete Rob Heffernan on his WAC gold medal following his success in the 50 km event held in Moscow

Sports autographs are always in demand especially when they belong  to a gold medallist

Rob 35, who is now Ireland’s 3rd all-time WAC gold medallist won easily in 3.37 which was a record timing for this year, Mikhail Ryzhov took silver, having never put in a serious challenge to the winner

The last time Ireland won a gold medal at the World championships  was back in 1995 when Sonia O’ Sullivan took the 5.000 Metre event in Gothenberg so convincingly .

Fellow Irishman Brendan Boyce finished in 25 place putting in a personal best 3.54

The newly appointed Irish president Michael D Higgins joined Enda Kenny in congratulating Rob on his success

The Taoiseach said: “This gold medal shows his tremendous strength of character and determination to grow stronger from each near miss.”

Sports minister Leo Varadkar said Heffernan turned in an “outstanding performance”

"It's a huge achievement for Rob," he said.

"After so many years competing at the very top level of international race walking, it is a just and most deserved reward for all his hard work and determination."

At Cricket Collectables were are always endeavouring to locate the most popular sports memorabilia
