Cricket at Malahide - Ireland v England

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Selby There have been 0 comments

Malahide Cricket Club was the place to be yesterday as Ireland took on England at the Dublin ground in front of an excited capacity crowd.

Cricket Memorabilia from ODIs is always popular and there are a growing number of collectors now who concentrate on Irish matches.

England fielded a much depleted side with Broad, Cook, Bell, Anderson, Swann, Pieterson, Root and Jonathon Trott, having a well-earned rest from the ODIs following their Ashes Victory last month

Captain Eoin Morgan captained the England side which is notable in itself as he is the first of only two cricketers to score a One day International century for both England and Ireland.

It is understandable that the predominantly Irish crowd were a bit agitated as they are used to seeing Eoin leading Ireland, Eoin hails from Dublin, and he played 23 ODIs for Ireland before switching to England following the 2007 World Cup.

England won the toss and put Ireland in to bat, Skipper Porterfield “opener” put on 112 runs before being clean bowled by Rankin, his lively innings included one six and fourteen boundaries. Rankin must have improved his chances of touring with England this winter.

Ireland finished on 269/7 after 50 overs with no other notable batting performances, in response England made 274/4 in 43 overs which included a record ODI 5th wicket stand of 226 runs, Morgan and Ravi Bopara scoring 124 and 101 respectively, both batsmen not out.

It was not all plain sailing for England who found themselves in trouble early on at 48/4 it was then in the fifteenth over that Ravi and Morgan made their challenge. Tim Murtagh who made his First Class debut in 2000 for Surrey, bowled well taking 3 wickets for 33.

Altogether it was a great day for spectators and for Irish Cricket

We expect to have Cricket Collectables from the match on our website later this week including Autographs, signed cricket bats and official signed scorecards .
