Guess who's back - Kevin Pietersen scores fluent century on return to first-class cricket with Surrey

England's record run-scorer gives reminder of his talents with century on first appearance for Surrey

Kevin Pietersen has long divided opinion amongst followers of English cricket, but on his return to the first-class game today he gave a reminder of his enduring class.

Having re-signed with Surrey, in order to regain his place in the England team, Pietersen made a typically flamboyant century in his first game of the county season against Oxford MCCU at The Parks in Oxford.

Pietersen has not played for England since he was sacked by the English Cricket Board (ECB), following last winter's disastrous tour of Australia that ended in a whitewash for Alastair Cook's men.

However, he may now have a route back into the side after the removal of his main opponent, Paul Downton - the former managing director of the ECB.

Colin Graves, the incoming ECB chairman, is known to be a Pietersen supporter, having recently reached out to him over a potential return to England colours.

Pietersen, England's all-time leading run-scorer, has given up contracts in the Indian Premier League and Caribbean Premier League in order to return to Surrey.

And with Michael Vaughan, another avowed supporter, known to be a candidate to replace Downton, Pietersen's scorching early-season form could yet mean England are unable to leave him out.
