Great if ironic to see Eoin Morgan is taking over from Alistair Cook to captain England in the one day international, when he plays his former countrymen  this week at Clontarf Cricket Club Dublin. The makings of a great day out.

  • Body line series hand signed cricket memorabilia

Posted on August 17, 2011 by Selby

There is only a limited amount of hand signed cricket memorabilia available depicting the 1932/33 Australian test series, famous for “fast leg theory.” This is the series where captain Jardine is said to have advised bowlers Larwood and Voce to adapt to a bodyline style of delivery. The objective of this was to contain Bradman’s skilful runmaking on the hard fast Australian bowling surfaces.

Under these playing conditions Bradman still achieved an enviable average of 56.5 .

I was fortunate to purchase an excellent example of cricket memorabilia, from the series recently at Knights sporting auctions.

M.C.C. tour of Australia (Bodyline) 1932/33. Large and original mono action photograph from the 1st Test match played at Sydney on the 2nd-7th December 1932. The photograph shows 'Sutcliffe, when 43, played one from O'Reilly on to his wicket without dislodging the bails. Note the amazement of McCabe and Oldfield as the ball trickles away from the middle stumps'. The photograph, by 'Kodak', with title to top border 'Ist Test' and title to lower border. Excellent image. The photograph measures 15.5"x12.5", framed and glazed, overall 22"x21". Good/ very good condition. Very rare in this larger format

  • Test at the oval

Posted on August 17, 2011 by Selby

Ahead of Thursdays final test at the Oval It is interesting to note that of the 10 Tests they’ve played here, India have lost only twice yet somehow not surprisingly the team seem resigned to their fate.  The whitewash I forecast after Trent Bridge is now a reality; let’s just hope that on a wicket known for high scores that there is plenty of good cricket to look forward to!!!

  • Lancs T20 campaign

Posted on August 14, 2011 by Selby

Edgbaston should see lots more action on 27/8 when Lancs play Leicestershire on finals day  in the T20, lets hope lancs can go all the way, will they stick with players from the qualifying campaign??

  • Edgbaston test

Posted on August 10, 2011 by Selby

With Virender Sehwag back in the side it will be interesting to see if he can recapture his 2008 form against England, he has little preparation but if on form could still make a huge impression on the series.

Openers Sehwag and Gambhir  can compensate for  Zaheer Khan, exit from the series however the weather at Edgbaston could be the deciding factor.

Definite value in betting on an England whitewash in the series.

  • Glamorgan cricket

Posted on August 8, 2011 by Selby

It is bad luck for Adam Shantry the bowling allrounder (Glamorgan) has been forced into premature retirement at only 28yrs due to a recurring knee injury, after  32 first class matches, 90 wickets averaging 24 runs. Good luck for the future

  • Third test England India

Posted on August 3, 2011 by Selby

Let’s see what Gambhir can do at Edgbaston, India’s tailenders need to keep it together in order to retain their number one ranking, it will be interesting to see who's in the side  for the occasion.

  • Test match fourth day

Posted on July 25, 2011 by Selby

Watchable teamwork from Prior  and Broad, Prior's attacking style a thorn in the side for the visitors,Leave the Warner Stand for 10 mins and you miss something, today should be riveting from my point of view, weather could be a problem???

  • England cricket

Posted on July 23, 2011 by Selby

You can’t beat it his 18thtest century was completed in vintage Pietersen style and a joy to watch from the Warner stand it is interesting to note that he hit only 3 scoring shots to the offside, so what of the Indian field tactics, this was so well timed and just what we needed, should be another fascinating day on Sat.  All eyes on Sachin Tendulkar 100 international 100s moment of history coming up, what a moment for both him and Indian cricket, great mora booster???
