    Nikolai Andrianov Olympic Memorabilia

Nikolai Andrianov, 15 Olympic Medals, Russian Gymnast Champion, winner of 7 Gold, 5 Silver, 3 Bronze Medals, He is one of the most decorated Gymnasts of all time.

Nikolai Andrianov Olympic Memorabilia does feature from time to time at various Auction Houses, I currently have a fine Presentation from the 1980 Moscow Olympics his last games, along with hand signed photographs, autographs and 1st day signed covers.

To name but a few categories, popular collectables would include: original Sports cards, official signed caps, original pins, medals, trophies original programmes, event tickets, press passes, press photos, posters, rare proof coin sets and stamps, signed sports periodicals/media and apparel.

Nikolai Andrianov (1952 – 2011) was born in Vladimir USSR he began training at 11 years of age at the Burevestnik Sports Society, under the auspices of Soviet Nikolai Tolkachyon, his first success came when he was selected for the Soviet National Team at the European Championships in 1971, where as a last minute competitor he took the event by storm winning 6 medals.

Nikolai Andrianov made history as the male record holder of the most career medals in sport; he won a total of 15 Medals between 1972 – 1980. Added to this envious tally are the 12 Medals he holds for winning individual events. He is the only male gymnast to hold 3 medals achieved in the vault and to win 3 medals in the floor exercise. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he achieved Gold in the Floor exercises, Silver in the Men’s Team all round competition and Bronze in the Vault.

, (Michael Phelps USA swimmer surpassed Andrianov’s 15 medals with an amazing tally of 16 in 2008).

The 1976 Olympics in Montreal saw Andrianov again in top form he achieved Gold in the Individual All Round, Floor Exercise, Vault and rings, 2 Silver and a Bronze. He was nominated Soviet Sportsman of the year.

Back on home territory for the 1980 Olympics he clocked up Gold in the Team All Round and Vault, Silver in the Individual All Around, Floor Exercises and a Bronze on the Horizontal Bar.

His Olympic Medal awards are listed below:

    Munich    1972        1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze

    Montreal 1976        4 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze

Moscow  1980        2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze (Andrianov took the Olympic oath on behalf of the participants of the Moscow 1980 Games)

Andrianov married a fellow Russian athlete in 1973, his wife Lyubov is the holder of 2 Team Gold medals won at the Olympic Games Mexico city 1968 and Munich in 1972, also winning Gold in 1970 World Championships in Ljubljana.

Andrianov holds the record as the single Male Gymnast to hold 3 Medals (Vault) and 3 Medals (Floor Exercise)

During the course of his career 1969 -1980 he competed at numerous events, Olympic Memorabilia is available from most occasions, Olympics, European Championships, USSR Championships and World Cups. Specifically from my point of view the Munich, Montreal and Moscow Olympics are most collectable but there is some excellent Memorabilia from the World Championships and European events.

If items became available his wife Lyubov Memorabilia is worth considering it would sit well in any portfolio alongside Andrianov Collectables.

Retiring after the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games Andrianov was appointed Coach to the Soviet National Junior team he became President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation eventually relocating to coach in Japan.

Andrianov sadly died at the age of 58 in 2011 in his hometown Vladimir. He will be remembered for his charity involvement and work with youngsters both in the Soviet Union and Japan.

His legacy will be seen to continue with the many successes of those that he coached.

    Michael Phelps Olympic Memorabilia

As Olympics 2012 approaches we have noticed more and more requests for information about Olympic Memorabilia.

One of the most popular events is Swimming, Relay, Freestyle, Backstroke, and Marathon  are all great viewing and many people now require a more permanent memory of the Games, an item of Michael Phelps Olympic Memorabilia,

Of great interest is the 9 times Gold Medallist Michael Phelps. By Olympic standards he is the most successful all round contestant ever, Swimming Memorabilia recognising his remarkable achievements are always sought after by Collectors and Fans alike.

    A little history

Competition Swimming can be traced in England as having taken place in the early 1800s under the auspices of the National Swimming Council.

1894 saw the formation of the International Olympic Committee, a decision was made to include four swimming events 100m freestyle,1200m, 500m and a special 100m event for seafarers.

Olympic Swimming Memorabilia from these early days is very rare and therefore highly collectable I do not personally have any Collectables relating to this era. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has items in their collection. Most of the original Memorabilia from these early events are housed at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Museum and Aquatic complex in Fort Lauderdale.

He has been named swimmer of the year 6 times and American swimmer of the year 8 times.

Two years later in the Pan Pacific Championship: Gold in the 100mbutterfly, 200m butterfly, 4x100/ 4x200 freestyle relay and the 4x100 medley relay.

Bob Bowman the Olympic Champions Coach renowned for his strong opinions is an accomplished concert pianist with a degree in phycology, his analytical approach to coaching/mentoring assisted Michael in his unprecedented Olympic record of 8 Gold in a single year.

Bob legendary for his coaching abilities is regarded by many as the most successful coach ever. What a combination???

USA Swimming have appointed Bob as official coach for the 2012 Olympics in London which is sure to lead to more Gold more Records and more Memorabilia.

With the 2012 London Olympics starting in just 5 months, Bowman looks set to continue his success with Michael Phelps and other up and coming athletes.

Swimming is something of a family event; Michael’s siblings are also Champion Swimmers.  His sister Hilary represented the University of Richmond whilst Whitney took part in the in the 1996 Olympic Swimming Trials.

Michael actively supports charities having set up his own Michael Phelps Foundation in 2008.

An article I have published on my Website is well worth the read for prospective Collectors Rare autographs real or fake, purchasing Signed Material from popular Internet auction sites is fraught with ambiguity, receiving the genuine article is not always the case, avoid disappointment.
