  • England v India at Eden Gardens

Cricket memorabilia will be significant at the Kolkata Test

England has won just one of nine Test Matches at Eden Gardens, thanks to Tony Greig’s side in 1977, which makes Wednesdays 3rd test a significant hurdle. Whether or not changing a winning England side is the answer is a matter of conjecture, I personally feel that with Steve Finn back and fully fit he should be included in the team, having sat out the first two tests his pace is needed in the 3rd.Stuart Broad failed to take a single wicket against India in the first two tests which rather confirms the problems pace bowlers are having with the subcontinent wickets

The general consensus among staff and players is that the Eden Gardens wicket in fact will initially suited to pace.

Tendulkar has been going through a abysmal phase and I would be expecting big things from him this week, he is quoted at 5/1 by Paddy Power to be top India scorer I think that’s a good price as is Kevin Pieterson at 100/30. The bet I like most is Monty Panesar at 12/1 for man of the match.

On another note best of luck to Ricky Ponting on his retirement after the Perth Test, it is a shame his last series ended in defeat by South Africa. Ricky has played 168 matches and leaves as the 2nd highest scorer in Test cricket. His record as a captain is excellent winning 48 tests and 164 ODI’s together with World Cup successes in 2003 and 2007.
